STUPID GOVERNMENT - LOS ANGELES

The Daily News, usually a lapdog Democrat newspaper, pans Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa's "greens" credentials as being timed for the 2020 election.

"Sure, the mayor just handed raises to the DWP unions for each of the next five years. Of course he's repeatedly raided DWP funds to paper over holes in the city's bloated budget, and we all know the DWP has become the dumping ground for cronies and dead weight the mayor and City Council want off their ledger sheets." But raising water and power rates 28.4% to "to meet his goal of weaning us off coal by 2020" is to cover up his own incompetence. Read the whole thing.

LA Weekly calls it what it is: massive rate hikes.

NOW compare the coverage above with the Democrat Party puppet, the Los Angeles Times, who claim, "The hike would pay for more aggressive conservation programs and a solar plan designed to create 16,000 jobs as well as cover the fluctuating price of coal and natural gas." DWP will get an additional $648 million per year.
Villaraigosa said the money would help pay for the hiring of "green doctors" to evaluate the energy efficiency of homes and stepped-up efforts to help residents obtain energy-efficient lightbulbs and refrigerators.
An unidentified union knuckle dragger said "residents would support the increases once they knew how the money would be spent." Yeah.

COMMENT - The current unemployment rate in the city of Los Angeles is 13.2 percent, even higher than the state average of 12.4 percent. Businesses will pick up the burden of the increase with rate increases of 20 to 26 percent if "they fail to take advantage of the energy efficiency programs we are providing," as one spokesperson put it. (Coercion to buy "green" technology, one supposes.)
