OBAMACARE MIGHT BE DERAILED DESPITE THE DAMNED GOP

ABC's Jack Tapper on Obama's "precipitous slide in the polls" says that it seems "likely that the White House will give up on any hopes that the bipartisan "Gang of Six" Senators working in the Senate Finance Committee will produce legislation that will advance the process.

He quotes a White House official who says the health care reform debate is entering a new phase,
"driven in part by the actions of some in the GOP including Sens. Chuck Grassley(R-IA) and Mike Enzi (R-WY), which indicates that they are essentially walking away from the negotiating table."
-------------------------------------------------------------
FOR GOD'S SAKE, why bother to quote unnamed spinmeisters who won't tell you that the only bipartisan effort was on the part of Republicans in the Senate Finance Committee who would have gladly, heartlessly, faithlessly gone along with the whole deal if not for public protest.

Spurred by those protests, plummeting poll numbers for Obama, the rebellion of Independents who swing nowmost elections, and the fear and hesitation of moderate (non-loony) Democrats, Enzi and Grassley have discovered they actually have backbones.

The ultra-Liberals in Congress were counting on the Senate Finance Committee forging an agreement that would then be Reconciled with the House bill. The end result would require 51 votes rather than 60 vote in the Senate to become law.
