Sept 3 - CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) on the denial. "Atkins, 61, had been expected to die of brain cancer more than a year ago, but she continues to cling to life.
She was denied compassionate release in July 2008, shortly after she was diagnosed and given only months to live."
AP: Terminally ill Charles Manson follower Susan Atkins denied parole in California has a lot of details on the murders. (Well-written story.)
Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Pat Sequeira recounted the crimes in great detail and said: "As sad as Miss Atkins looks today, it pales against the crime scene photos. These were brutal horrible crimes."There's a current picture of Atkins at the story. Another picture from LA Times.
Naturally, the Los Angeles Times quoted Former Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi who said it was time for the state to show Atkins mercy. But, then, Bugliosi reinvented himself as a Liberal years ago when his career began to flag. (Remember how he wanted Bush tried for 100,000 Iraqi deaths and the death of U.S. servicement?) Wikipedia remembers.
