DANCING AROUND THE TRUTH

Howard Kurtz, the media writer for the Washington Post, is a great writer who often dances around the truth.

To give him credit, he knows who pays his salary. If he worked for the Guardian (U.K.) he would respond accordingly, just as he would if he wrote for the Washington Times. Opposite ends of the political road, so to speak, but Howard would do it unflinchingly.

One day a cheerleader for Obama, today it is "Et Tu, Lefty? Allies Critical Of President"

The title alone suggests they betrayed Obama. The storyline is that Obama betrayed them. "But the criticism of Barack Obama has turned strikingly personal as some of his liberal media allies have gone wobbly on him." And " the sense of letdown is palpable." The White House is aware of "diminishing enthusiasm." He writes,
It was liberal commentators, of course, who formed the leading edge of the most favorable coverage that any White House contender has drawn in a generation. Having swooned as they did, some were probably more susceptible to having their hearts broken.
He has "disappointed the liberal pundits who thought he shared their goals." And "Even sympathetic commentators face an inherent tension when dealing with their side."
--------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT HOWARD dances around is that Liberal = Left and those Lefty Liberals in the media were in the tank for Obama. They expected him to be in the tank for them.

And he was.

The problem was the American public wouldn't buy it. Worse, from an election perspective, Independent voters won't.

Obama has lost more support from Independents than he has from Republicans or Democrats. His decline is gradual with Dems; it is a precipitous drop-off with Independents. Because they don't trust him.

Obama didn't betray Lefties. They betrayed themselves and their anger is the usual emotional lash that is the core of the Liberal argument. Not reason. Not compromise. Not Realpolitik. Not the human reality that results from vaguely defined political solutions that a large segment of the population find bizarre and misplaced. For the Left, theirs is to win or die. That's what being a Liberal means. No compromise, no prisoners.

As the Wall Street Journal's Daniel Henninger wrote today, "Mr. Obama's people seem weirdly oblivious to the scale of their outlays, programs and dreams."
