WHAT A MIRACLE FOR HER FAMILY

Can you imagine? After 18 years.

An 11-year-old girl kidnapped in 1991 will be reunited with her family after suffering 18 years of sexual abuse by a California couple.

Jaycee Lee Dugard was forced into a van in South Tahoe on June 10, 1991. Phillip Garrido, a 58-year-old registered sex offender, and his wife Nancy Garrido, 54, were arrested this week. The girl bore two children, now 11 and 15, by Phillip Garrido. All three were hidden in a backyard compound. The children had never visited a doctor or attended school, according to reports.

Campus police became suspicious of Garrido's visit to University of California Berkeley campus with two children. He's a registered sex offender who shouldn't be with children. Suspicious, campus police notified authorities. Garrido's parole officer was notified and ordered Garrido to his office. He "brought the two children and a young woman he called Allissa with him." Under intense questioning by the parole officer, Garrido admitted the girl was Jaycee Dugard.

USA Today: "Besides a 1999 conviction for sexual assault on Nevada, Garrido was convicted of kidnapping in 1980." (The Reno Gazette-Journal brought up 1976 archived stories on his arrests and convictions.)

Examiner.com: "He was sentenced to 50 years for the crime and was sent to a Leavenworth, Kan. Federal prison, where he remained until 1986. He was then transferred to a federal prison in Lompoc and in 1988 was paroled, but placed in a halfway house due to a parole violation."
