A Democrat operative has a criminal record and no one seems to recall how he got to be in the inner circle. Turns out that he was introduced by a UAW political director.
Milton "Skip" Ohlsen III is facing time in federal prison over his guilty pleas in May to mortgage fraud and gun charges. A criminal check showed he had a federal felony drug violation in 1996. "In 1996 he was sentenced to four years probation for "intent to distribute" cocaine" Before that, he was charged with carrying a weapon without a permit in Iowa. Since 2007, he has been arrested twice for possessing firearms. The 2008 charge was for possession of a stolen .40 caliber Glock with special "high velocity" armor-piercing ammunition in the chamber,
The gun charges were felonies because of the felony drug trafficking conviction.
Turns out that he also had a ton of aliases. "I've seen Milton Ohlsen, Milton Ohlsen III, Mike Ohlsen, Mike Scott, and he said in his deposition that [the name] he's assuming [at] the hotel was either Nathan Alexander, or Alexander Nathan, or Michael Alexander. He wasn't sure," his wife testified.
In 2006, he helped strip-club operator Mike Ocello get elected to the Mehlville School Board. Two years earlier, Ohlsen was involved in the 2004 election of Missouri State Senator Jeff Smith. On August 25, Smith admitted in federal court today that he tried to cover up his involvement in a federal elections violation not once -- but twice.
His friend and former associate Steve Brown, a state representative and former assistant Attorney General for Missouri, also pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice today.TWO LEGISLATORS RESIGN
After pleading guilty, State Rep. Steve Brown and State Sen. Jeff Smith resigned. Both were Democrats.
