A former chief of staff for Bill Clinton when he was governor of Arkansas faces felony charges accusing her of smuggling a knife and 48 tattoo needles onto the state's death row.
. . .
[Betsey] Wright, [66], a longtime visitor to death row at the state's Varner Unit, was arrested May 22 after a guard noticed a knife mixed in with her materials at an X-ray machine, an Arkansas State Police report shows. Inside a bag of Doritos, the guard found 48 tattoo needles, the report claims.
Wright also had a box cutter and tweezers, the report claims.

Arkansas Times' Arkansas Blog "Betsey Wright charged in prison case" seems to think just everyone does it and since when has anyone been charged?
The state's case makes for interesting reading. If you believe the Arkansas Times, everyone carries around a zip-loc bag with a blue and silver ink pen with tweezers and a needle inside, not to mention the red and silver swiss army knife and blue box cutters with a razor. The 48 tattoo needles were found in a re-sealed package of Doritos.

Wright was Chief of Staff to Clinton for seven years. She was "arrested" May 22, but the story only made the wires August 12 after the AP gather enough information about prison contraband to bury Wright's actions.
Her Wikipedia entry. The Stennis Center for Public Service Leadership has taken down her biography. Wright has been a guest writer for the Arkansas Times. Both times she wrote about the death penalty.
