Monica Conyers, you know, wife of Rep. John Conyers (D-Mi) Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee -- the committee charged with overseeing the administration of justice within the federal courts, administrative agencies and Federal law enforcement entities -- is pleading poverty to get the court to pay for her appeal.
She was convicted and was sentenced to three years in prison. She asked for and got a federal judge to declare her indigent and appoint an attorney to handle her appeal on bribery charges. She lives in a $334,000 house near the Detroit Golf Club. The Detroit News, however, found that she has a rental house in her name at 3351 Charlevoix that is in a foreclosure auction. The Wayne County Treasurer filed on the home on March 26, claiming she owes $241.58 from her 2008 taxes and owes another $642.49 from 2009.
You can see the house on Google maps. It is, conspicuously, the only house on the block with a black SUV in front of it and junk on the front porch. John, however, is busy making law for the rest of us.
