ObamaCare

The Wall Street Journal looks at the failure of public healthcare in Massachusetts.

FINDING: "A typical family of four today faces total annual health costs of nearly $13,788, the highest in the country. Per capita spending is 27% higher than the national average."

FINDING: A shortage of doctors, "stubbornly high health costs are partly the result of intrusive government regulations that stifle competition in the insurance market and strict mandates on what services insurance must cover." Fifty-six percent of doctors will not take new patients. For new patients who do get an appointment with a primary-care doctor, the average waiting time is 44 days.

From a Wall Street Journal opinion piece that previewed national health care by comparing it to RomneyCare: The state's overall costs on health programs have increased by 42% (!) since 2006.

The Massachusetts State Treasurer said the health insurance law “has nearly bankrupted the state.”
