ACAPULCO AND DRUG GANG VIOLENCE
The dead included five police officers who were attacked on a night-time patrol. Bodies of eight other men [Ed-All eight were gunmen, not innocents.] were also found around the popular holiday destination. They were riddled with bullets and four of them had been beheaded.
"More than 18,000 people have been killed across Mexico since President Felipe Calderón deployed the army against the cartels in December 2006."

In Guerrero, a gun battle between the army and presumed traffickers during a house search left 11 dead. [Ed - Ten were gunmen; one was a police officer.] In total 50 people were killed over the weekend.
