Today in the News

Best Read of the Day
The editor of Honolulu magazine has second thoughts about an article he wrote in 1997 on the effects of global warming on Hawaii. "I never expected the terms “green,” “sustainability” and “carbon footprint” would be hurled at us daily, secular guilt crammed into every consumer choice." Excellent reading and a lot of links.

TARP money is not a slush fund, says Sen. Judd Gregg (NH). He ought to know. He helped craft the legislation. The Obama administration wants the repaid loan money for a small-business loan program.
"This is the law," Gregg said, holding up the TARP guidelines he helped write in 2008. "Let me tell you what the law says. Let me read to you again, because you don't appear to understand the law. The law is very clear. The monies recouped from TARP shall be paid into the general fund of the Treasury for the reduction of the public debt."
Gregg was the Obama administration's original pick for Commerce secretary until someone pointed out that it would leave him in charge of the census.
