MORE CORRUPTION IN SPORTS

Toyoto has pulled out of Formula One races, leaving the scandal-ridden F1 with no Japanese automakers, tiremakers or big corporate sponsors. Bridgestone pulled out three days ago. Honda quit last year. Renault is considering following Toyoto. (That's unlikely. Renault’s reputation isn't high to begin with and was tarnished even more when they arranged for a driver to deliberately crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to help his teammate Fernando Alonso win the race. Flavio Briatore, the chief of the Renault team, was banned for life in 2007 after instructing one of the team’s drivers to crash on purpose. Now Briatore wants retain his ownernership a British football club, another scandal-ridden monied sport.)

Wired's exaustive report on the scandal. And then there was that Nazi Orgy party.

A cynic would probably point out that if it weren't for the economic downturn, none of these companies would have a problem supporting the notoriously scandalous Formula 1. Business Week was more diplomatic when they said, "Spending such large sums on a sport that isn’t a huge draw in the U.S. isn’t the best use of limited resources."
