Labour announced its first major spending cut today when it abandoned a manifesto pledge to give mothers a year of paid maternity leave after the birth of their child.--------------------------------------------
Whitehall officials said that it was “still a goal” to extend paid leave from nine months to twelve “as soon as the economic climate and fiscal positions allowed”.
Mind you, these are gifts. From the government to YOU. Not paid for by taxpayers and consumers who will pay more for products and cough up more for taxes. No sir. This is the wonder of Socialism. The gift that keeps on giving. Until such time they withdraw the largess when it is inconvenient or they run out of money or they want to punish one class or another.
Because that's the real goal of Socialism. To control people's lives. It's a power trip that rivals sex, the aphrodisiac that keep politicians preening before their mirrors in abject wonder. Only a thin line separates that gift endowment from putative withdrawal and the line between vote buying and coercion when you no longer play their game.
