Corporal Harrison was 29 years old. He died in the pre-dawn raid to free Stephen Farrell and his interpreter after Farrell ignored Afghan police warnings that the area was unsafe. He ignored a warning in the village from an Afghan and they were both captured. The Red Cross was negotiating for the release of he pair and the consensus is that the militants wanted money. There were no plans to kill the reporter and his interpreter.
The interpreter, Sultan Munadi, a woman and a child were killed in the raid.
The reporter simply left the body of the interpreter on the ground as he climbed aboard the aircraft. Afghan reporters were angered by the callousness.
Farrell had been captured once before in 2004. He did not even have the decency to acknowledge Corporal Harrison's sacrifice on his blog.
