DEMOCRAT CONTRIBUTER SUED AND ARRESTED

HBSC is suing Hassan Nemazee, 59, for deceiving it into lending him $100 million. Nemazee was charged in August ne count of bank fraud for seeking a $74 million loan from Citigroup's banking unit under false pretenses.
Nemazee, who sits on the board of the Iranian American Political Action Committee, typically donates more than $100,000 annually to Democratic political candidates.

He is listed as one of the top "bundlers" of contributions to Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, according to OpenSecrets, org, a website run by the Center for Responsive Politics research group.
He used the &74 million to pay off his Citigroup loan.

THE FRAUD WAS EXTENSIVE
The HSBC lawsuit, dated September 2, said that "to accomplish the fraud, Nemazee represented to HSBC that he had $89 million in Treasury Notes, with a current market value of more than $125 million, in a specified brokerage firm account; submitted a supposed agreement from the brokerage firm with forged signatures, false addresses, and false telephone numbers; used a mail drop; and submitted fabricated brokerage statements."

FROM WIKIPEDIA entry
During the United States presidential election, 2004, Nemazee was a supporter of John Kerry and a major contributor to his campaign. He was the New York Finance Chair for the Kerry campaign, and is currently the national finance chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.[3] With Nemazee as the national finance chair, Chuck Schumer's DSCC in 2006 raised $115 million, outpacing the NRSC by substantial sums, and helping the Democratic Party take control of the Senate.[4] During his presidency, Bill Clinton nominated Nemazee to fill the position of U.S. Ambassador to Argentina.[5]

More recently, Nemazee served as Finance Chairman to Hillary Clinton's 2007-08 presidential campaign, and also donated $50,000 (the maximum amount) to Barack Obama's Presidential Inaugural Committee.[6] In addition, Nemazee was a bundler for the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee.[7]

USA TODAY (June 25, 2008)
Obama shares fundraisers with Clinton
Her national finance co-chair, Hassan Nemazee, told The Associated Press last week that Clinton would be freer to campaign for Obama and raise money for him if she did not have to concentrate on retiring her debt.

Moreover, Nemazee said, it would be easier for Clinton fundraisers who wanted to help Obama to be able to tell former Clinton donors, "Look what Senator Obama has done for Senator Clinton."

NO WONDER politicians don't respond to their constituents. They work for their contributors.

UPDATE: (Sept 21, 2009) Nemazee has been indicted for defrauding Bank of America, HSBC and Citigroup Inc out of more than $290 million in loan proceeds, U.S. prosecutors said on Monday.
The office of the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan and the FBI said he used the proceeds of his scheme to make donations to election campaigns of federal, state and local candidates, donations to political action committees and charities.
The case is: U.S. v. Nemazee, 09-mj-1927 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (Manhattan)
