End of the End-of-Life Provisions?
Senate dropping (maybe)

From the AP: Senators exclude end-of-life provision from bill

That would be the end-of-life provision the media and Democrats denied existed. The one written into the bill by Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon).

The AP uses the word "voluntary" several times, but, in fact, the provision would not be voluntary. For the patient. Obamacare would require doctors to raise the issue. In fact, they would be paid to raise the issue. Every five years.

It's not surprising that death counseling would appear in a Democrat healthcare bill or that the provision should be written by a Congressman from Oregon. Oregon has a Death with Dignity Act. Oregon has a website devoted to the act that was adopted in 1997. It doesn't just allow patient choice to commit suicide, but allow doctors to prescribe the drugs to kill them.

The entire House Obamacare bill can be found here.

This is one of four versions. The finance committee is working on their version.
Pages 425-431 discusses the “Advance Care Planning Consultation." The practitioner is defined as a physician 0r a nurse practioner or physician's assistant who has the authority under state law to sign orders for life sustaining treatments. (p 428)

It is the very fact that end-of-life discussions are forced on physicians and patients that is so disturbing. In a wide reach, the bill "provides training for health care professionals across the continuum of care about the goals and use of orders for life sustaining treatment." (p 428)

The training for the "the program for orders for life sustaining treatment" will be GUIDED BY a coalition of "stakeholders" that includes: (p 427 - 428)
  • representatives from emergency medical services,
  • emergency department physicians or nurses,
  • state long-term care association,
  • state medical association,
  • state surveyors,
  • agency responsible for senior services,
  • state department of health,
  • state hospital association,
  • home health association,
  • state bar association,
  • and state hospice association.
